To help keep the kids busy and save your sanity, we’ve found some great places to visit and activities to do across Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
Chill Out
Brisbane City Council has organised a variety of youth activities to take part in areas across the Greater Brisbane region. The Chill Out activities include Gymnastic workshops, Laser Games, Rock Climbing Wall, Kite Surfing, plus much more fun! Most activities are free of charge or at a low cost, but bookings are essential.

South Bank Precinct
There’s so much to do at South Bank, you could even spend days with the kids there. For a relaxed day you can hang out at The Parklands or have a picnic by the river, or take the kids to enjoy a cultural experience at the museums and art galleries. Over the school holidays there are a whole range of activities on offer from storytelling groups, creative drawing activities, body movement games and a science fiction exhibition.

Brisbane Public Pools
There are a number of public pools across Brisbane for you and the family to cool down in over summer. The Chermside Pool and Acacia Ridge Leisure Centre in particular are perfect spots for family fun, with waterslides, lagoon play areas, wading pools and water play areas.

Africa Exhibit, Australia Zoo
Australia Zoo has a new attraction to check out, the Africa Exhibit. Featuring the only Giraffe and Zebra in Queensland, along with a baby rhinosaurus, plus other exciting African animals to check out. The Zoo also other fun activities on offer over the school holidays, such as meeting Terri, Bindi and Robert, face painting and pony rides.

Brisbane Botanical Gardens, Mount Coot-tha
Enjoy the sunshine over Summer by visiting the Botanical Gardens at Mount Coot-tha, there’s an array of beautiful flora to check out and the Hide ‘n’ Seek Children’s Trail through the Exotic Rainforest. Located within the gardens is also the Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium with two new shows on over the school holidays.

Movies in the Park
Brisbane City Council have organised free outdoor kids movies (G and PG rated) to be shown in parks across Brisbane. Some of the suburbs where the movies are being held include, New Farm, Bulimba, Bracken Ridge, Chermside and West End.

Broadwater Parklands, Southport
The Broadwater on the Gold Coast is a great family day out. There are plenty of grassy spots or tables and chairs to set up a picnic/BBQ as well as things do check out like the kids Rock Pools, Aquatic Centre, Swimming Enclosure, Playgrounds and The Pier and Promenade to stroll along. Plus over the school holidays, AquaSplash has been set up in ocean, a water park attraction with trampolines, slides, climbing walls and loads more fun to be had in the water, at an affordable price!

Day Out with Thomas
Perfect for the younger kids, the Day Out with Thomas attraction is held at The Workshops Rail Museum in North Ipswich. There’s a whole range of things to do and see for the kids, like circus fun, activities, guided tour of the railway workshop and adventure playground.

Brisbane Parks & Playgrounds

Why not go for a few drives over the school holidays and check out these different spots.
